Privacy policy
Last updated 22 October 2026
This policy explains what information GrubRide collects when you use the GrubRide Grub, GrubRide Ride and GrubRide Driver apps, the GrubRide store tools and this website, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. GrubRide is based in Linden, Guyana.
1. What we collect
Your account
Your name, mobile number and, if you sign up with one, your email address. We use your mobile number to send you a sign-in code.
Location
- Customers: your precise location when you place an order or book a ride, so we can check you are inside the Linden service area and so your driver can find you. We also store the pickup, drop-off and delivery addresses you enter.
- Drivers: your precise location while you are online. During a job, the customer you are serving can see where you are.
We only ask for location when you use these features, and you can turn it off in your phone’s settings at any time. Some features won’t work without it.
Orders, rides and payments
What you ordered, the store, your rides, prices, fares, ratings and the status of each booking. For payments made with MMG, card or bank transfer, we keep the amount, the date and the payment provider’s reference. We never see or store your MMG PIN. Card numbers are handled by our card payment provider, not by GrubRide.
Drivers
To check that drivers are eligible and safe, we collect:
- your date of birth, home address, national ID number and an emergency contact
- a recent photo of you
- your vehicle details and number plate
- your driver’s licence, insurance, vehicle registration, certificate of fitness and police clearance, and our vehicle inspection results
- your bank details, so we can pay you
Restaurants and stores
The business name, address, opening hours, menu, prices and photos, and the owner’s contact details.
Your phone
If you allow notifications, a notification token so we can tell you about your orders, rides and jobs. On iPhone, a separate token lets us update the order or ride tracker on your Lock Screen. If you upload a photo or document, the app uses your camera or photo library only for that.
This website
grubride.gy has no ads, analytics or tracking cookies. Like any website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes your IP address and basic request details to deliver the pages and protect against attacks. The site’s fonts load from Google Fonts.
2. How we use it
- To run the service: take and deliver orders, match riders with drivers, work out prices and fares, and show live progress.
- To take payments, pay drivers and stores, handle refunds and keep accounting records.
- To check driver applications and keep drivers’ documents current.
- To send you sign-in codes and notifications about your bookings.
- To keep GrubRide safe: prevent fraud, look into complaints and enforce our rules.
- To meet our legal obligations.
We don’t sell your information, and we don’t use it for third-party advertising.
3. Who sees it
- The people in your booking:
- Stores see what you ordered.
- Drivers see your name, pickup and drop-off points, and the delivery address.
- Customers see their driver’s name, phone number, car, number plate and location during the trip.
- GrubRide staff: only staff who need it for their role, such as dispatch, accounts or driver inspections. Staff sign in with a password and a texted code, and we keep a log of when staff view driver documents or bank details.
- Service providers that run GrubRide for us:
- Google Firebase and Google Cloud: our servers, database and file storage, located in the United States.
- Apple and Google: phone notifications and the Lock Screen tracker.
- Expo: sending notifications to the apps.
- MMG and our card and bank payment providers: payments.
- Cloudflare: this website.
- When the law requires it: for example, a valid request from the police or a court in Guyana, or to protect someone’s safety.
4. How we protect it
Information travels over encrypted connections.
- Drivers’ bank details, and every document and photo uploaded to GrubRide, are encrypted with AES-256 before we store them.
- The apps can only read your own orders and rides. Everything else goes through our server, which checks who you are on every request.
- Staff access is limited by role and protected with two-step sign-in.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
5. How long we keep it
- Your account: while it is open. If you ask us to delete it, we remove your profile and sign-in details.
- Orders, rides and payments: kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires, even after an account is closed.
- Driver documents and bank details: kept while you drive with GrubRide, then for as long as we need them for legal, insurance or safety reasons.
- Unfinished payment attempts: deleted after 7 days.
- Lock Screen tracker tokens: deleted when the booking ends.
6. Your choices and rights
- See and correct your information: most of it is in the app. For anything else, contact us.
- Delete your account: email us from your account’s email address, or message us from your registered number.
- Turn off permissions in your phone’s settings: location, notifications, camera, photos and, on iPhone, Live Activities.
- Complain: you can also raise a concern under Guyana’s data protection law.
7. Children
GrubRide is not meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. Drivers must be at least 18.
8. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change is important, we will also tell you in the apps.
